Sample ItineraryCUBA ACADEMIC PROGRAM Close *T&E 2 / 4 WK CUBA ACADEMIC PROGRAM Saturday: Arrive in Miami Arrival in Miami and hotel check-in (included). Tour little Havana (time permitting) Meet and Greet with T&E Tour Director for full pre-departure orientation Sunday: Havana Depart Miami for early morning flight to Cuba Arrival in Havana. Welcome to Cuba! Board private transportation and meet your Cuban guide for the duration of the program Walking tour of old Havana including visiting amazing churches, forts, art galleries, and more Welcome Reception provided 25 stories above Havana for spectacular views of the city Check into homestay accommodation in casas particulares near the university campus Dinner provided Daily Itinerary - Monday through Friday: UNIVERSITY OF HAVANA / Socio-Cultural Programming Early Breakfast at 8 am Begin Academic Program at the University of Havana First Day: Placement test and official enrollment Daily Classes (M-F) from 9am-12:30pm Lunch provided at accommodation after classes Daily Socio-cultural programming (M-F) in the afternoon hours will include visits to local attractions, various “people to people” activities and excursions to nearby culturally significant towns and locations. Dinner provided at accommodation. Saturday and Sunday *Excursions: Cojimar: The seaside town where Ernest Hemingway wrote The Old Man and the Sea Viñales: Pinar del Rio beautiful mountainous province known for it’s amazing valleys, landscapes and mountains. One hour hike through a National Park declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cienfuegos: Founded in 1819 initially settled by French immigrants, the city known as the “Pearl of the South”. It became a trading place for sugar cane, tobacco and coffee now an example of modern urbanism in Spanish America through trends in urban order. Trinidad: In this historic city and UNESCO World Heritage Site you will stroll the picturesque colorful streets and be mesmerized by the town’s inherent charm. Santa Clara: Visit the very center of the island and the site of the last battle of the Cuban revolution in 1958. Varadero: Cubas popular beach resort town. Fusterville: home of Caribbean renowned Cuban naïve artist Jose Fuster known as the Picasso of the Caribbean specializing in ceramics, painting, drawing, engraving and graphic design. Opportunity to have your personal tile placed in this neighborhood to mark your spot in Cuba forever! Topes de Collantes: A mountain expedition to the incredibly scenic and breathtaking destination replete with jungle rivers and waterfalls. Enjoy swimming in the Venado pools and nature hiking. Lunch at neighborhood “paladar” for a taste of Cuban specialties Meet with a faculty member of the University of Havana for an explanation of the matriculation process from youth through college of the average student. Learn how each student is chosen for a particular field of work after graduation Attend historical Canon Ceremony, a must see for any authentic Cuban experience while in Havana. Day 4: Havana / Viñales Early Breakfast at 8 am Board private transportation for a full day trip outside of Havana Trip to beautiful Viñales. Full day excursion to the beautiful mountainous province of Pinar del Rio. This western most region is known for it’s amazing valleys, landscapes and mountains. One hour hike through a National Park declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which stands out for the beauty of its wooded hills and numerous caves and interesting cultural landscape Lunch provided at the only Cuban Organic farm on the island, Finca Organica. Take a tour of the farm led by it’s owner and founder Visit one of the famous tobacco farms, Finca de Tobaco. Learn how this mainstay crop of Cuba is planted, harvested and prepared for shipping to tobacco factories to bring to final product. A personal guided tour by the owner will highlight the visit Painted Cave boat ride (time and weather permitting) Return to Havana with dinner en route Day 5: Havana / Cojimar Breakfast at accommodation Visit an elementary school to visit a classroom. See how a student spends a normal day Board private transportation for a visit to a cigar factory to learn how these world famous cigars are transformed from leaves to final product Visit Revolution Square Explore the fishing village of Cojimar, where Ernest Hemingway wrote The Old Man and the Sea Lunch at Las Terrazas well known as his favorite restaurant Stop at “El Mercado”, a great opportunity to buy souvenirs and special Cuban art and other local gifts Return to accommodations Day 6: Cienfuegos Early Breakfast at 8 am Transfer to the city known as the "Pearl of Cuba": Cienfuegos City tour including a Visit to The Palacio del Valle and the Teatro Tomas Terry Lunch provided at local restaurant paladar Visit a local art workshop specializing in teaching children to draw and paint and continue to a local art studio where you will meet the artists and view their artwork.
